Cookies Policy
Which cookies and browser storage this site uses, and how to turn them off.
I use a small number of cookies, all for visit statistics. I list each one here so you can see exactly what is on your device.
What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that a website can place on your device. Websites use them to remember settings, to keep you signed in or to measure visits. Related tools, such as local storage, work in a similar way.
Cookies on this site
The site sets no cookies of its own for tracking, profiling or ads. The only cookies come from Google Analytics, which I use to count visits and see which pages are useful.
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga | Google Analytics | Tells one visitor from another so visits can be counted. | Up to 2 years |
_ga_* | Google Analytics | Keeps track of the current visit session. | Up to 2 years |
Google may update these cookie names or lifetimes. Its own documentation has the current details.
Local storage I use
The name tool has a Save button. When you press it, the tool writes the saved name to your browser’s local storage, so your list is still there when you come back.
| Item | Purpose | Lasts |
|---|---|---|
wen:favs (local storage) | Remembers the names you chose to save. It stays on your device and is never sent to me. | Until you remove the names or clear your browser data |
This is only used when you press Save. If you never save a name, nothing is written.
Hosting and server logs
My hosting provider may keep basic server logs, such as IP address and pages requested, to keep the site secure and working. These logs are not cookies. See the Privacy Policy for more.
Third-party cookies
Google Analytics is the only third-party service on the site, so its cookies are the only third-party cookies. I do not use advertising or social media tools. If I add one later, I will update this page first.
How to manage cookies and storage
You can control cookies and local storage in your browser settings. You can delete them, block them or ask your browser to tell you before it saves them. To stop Google Analytics specifically, you can install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
You can also remove saved names inside the tool with the Remove and Clear buttons. If you block local storage, the tool still makes names, but it cannot remember your saved list. Your browser’s help pages explain how to do this. Look for “clear site data” or “manage cookies.”
Changes to this policy
I may update this Cookies Policy if the site changes. I will change the date at the top of the page when I do.
